Most of us know eggs as a source of protein. Few know about the thin membrane between the shell and the egg white. The Compendium of Materia Medica (Ben Cao Gang Mu) recorded it as medicine, taken by mouth and applied to the skin, and likened it to a phoenix’s gown.
